Resistive Touch Screens:
The 4, 5, & 8 Wire Touch Screens are known as Analog resistive touch screens. Each type offers a wide variety of sizes as standard product, and of course, we can make custom designs per customer requirements. The Matrix is what is known as Digital resistive touch screen. These listed Touch Screen designs have similar working principles. (Contact us for the differences in each.) Therefore only the 4 Wire operating principle is discussed below. 4 Wire Touch Screen Operating Principle: The construction of the Touch Screen is basically a two layer structure. The top layer is typically PET film, which is hard coated on the non-conductive (top) side to prevent scratches. The bottom layer can be PET film or Glass. The conductive sides of the top and bottom layers are coated with ITO (Indium Tin Oxide). The layers are separated by printed, transparent, non-conductive dots to provide the spacing. When in operation the unit is provided with voltage by a controller. When touched, the two conductive layers come into contact with each other and the controller will determine the X and Y coordination by calculating the voltage at the touch point. The typical design has the X direction on the top ITO film and the Y direction is on the bottom ITO glass or film.
